Meditation and Mindfulness
Learn meditation and mindfulness techniques to promote stress reduction, improve physical and emotional health, mental focus, and creativity.Anyone can learn to meditate and it doesn’t require sitting cross-legged on the floor, clearing the mind of thoughts, a change of diet or belief system. All that’s needed is a desire to practice and a little time each day. With regular practice, the many benefits unfold naturally and easily.
Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It’s a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there—buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.Deepak Chopra, MDPhoenix Yoga and Meditation offers mindfulness and meditation training for groups or individuals looking to learn a simple way to incorporate these techniques into daily life. Although we teach various types of meditation-based on the needs of our clients, our main system is The Simple, Easy, Every Day Meditation™ method as taught by Sarah McLean, owner and founder of McLean Meditation Institute in Sedona Arizona. This method is perfect for anyone – whether a beginner or getting back on track with meditation.
The following meditation and mindfulness techniques are taught in our classes:
- Balancing Breath
- Body Awareness
- Breath Awareness Meditation
- Heart-Centered Breath
- Self-Inquiry Practice
- Silent Sound (mantra) Meditation
- Peacefinder Practices
- Loving Kindness Meditation
- And more
Many people live life at a hectic pace, often juggling many responsibilities and commitments. The result can be a mind that is in overdrive; constantly planning and thinking about the to-do list. An agitated mind is quick to (over)react, easily irritated, and can’t focus well. It also has a tendency to think about the same difficult situations over and over. A stressed mind results in a stressed body with tense muscles, poor digestion, aches and pains, and difficulties sleeping. If this continues for a long time, it can result in depression or anxiety.
Meditation connects you with your soul, and this connection gives you access to your intuition, your heartfelt desires, your integrity, and the inspiration to create a life you love.” Sarah McLean
Mindfulness is defined as paying attention to the present moment without judgment and with full acceptance. For example when walking in the park, your focus is on the sensations of the wind on your skin, the smell of the grass, the sound of the birds singing, instead of worrying about past or future events. The result is a more enjoyable experience, and reduced tension in the mind and body.
Meditation and mindfulness put you in control of your mind. These techniques train you to put your attention where you want to and when you want to.
The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path, I walk in peace. With each step, the wind blows. With each step, a flower blooms.Thich Nhat Hanh
